In our third feature of “Keeping Up with the Lords,” we talked with Kenyon rising senior WR #6 Jake Genachowski. Jake, an economics major, is in his hometown of Washington, D.C. working as an intern for the ESPN television program, “Pardon the Interruption.” The hit sports show is well acquainted with Kenyon, as co-hosts Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon welcomed Shaka Smart ‘99 onto the program back in 2011.
When Jake isn’t in the studio helping prepare for the show, you might just find him out in a strawberry patch. Keep reading to hear about how Jake is helping with the show!
Where are you living this summer? Washington, D.C.
What is your job/internship? I am an intern for the ESPN show, Pardon the Interruption.
What do you do on a daily basis? I participate in the daily morning meeting about what will be put on the show, I search through archives to find tape to use on the show and edit that tape together for background video.
Do you have any examples of something you have created that made it on the show? I wrote one joke that made it on (Editor’s note: check our Twitter feed for the video!).
What have you done on your days off? I got booted from my high school gym after four years so I had to join a real one, which has meant a lot of early morning wakeups. I also went strawberry picking.
Any advice for other students on finding summer internships/jobs? Be proactive. Internships will not come to you. It does you absolutely no harm to send your resume to someone. Only positives can come out of that.
